The History of Gilmer, TX

Gilmer is the county seat of Upshur County and has served as an important center for government, commerce, and agriculture in Northeast Texas since the mid-1800s. The community was established in 1846 and named for Thomas Walker Gilmer, a former United States Secretary of the Navy.
