The History of Lake O' the Pines

Lake O' the Pines is a large reservoir on Big Cypress Bayou in Northeast Texas, primarily located in Marion and Upshur counties near Jefferson, Ore City, and Diana. The lake was created by the construction of Ferrells Bridge Dam by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Construction began in the 1950s, and the reservoir was completed as part of a federal flood-control project for the Cypress Creek watershed. Originally known as Ferrells Bridge Reservoir, it was later renamed Lake O' the Pines, reflecting the heavily wooded pine forests surrounding much of its shoreline.
